This is a bit of an odd one; of all the places to not bother taking my camera out of it’s bag and subsequently have content to show off…I choose the photography show! Yes, I know, embarrasing.
What makes this even worse is the fact that while dragging myself around the exhibition hall, gazing at all of the latest gadgets, gizmos and cameras, I bumped into Kai from the one and only Digital Rev, the worlds most watched camera review channel, and still failed to whip out my camera to actually prove this fact!
As a result I’m feelign somewhat negative about this, my first entry in quite some time so am unsure as to where I should go, other than borrowing some images from the stands I liked I guess.
First thing first, Kai – I was walking up one of the aisles when I heard a voice calling my name, I knew the voice but it didn’t ring well shouting my name, I turned to see Kai waving me down, all very odd. How do you know him I hear you ask, well I don’t at all and neither does he know me. Stood beside him was a friend and fellow photographer Russ who, having spotted Kai and knwing I was a fan, stopped him and proceeded to call me, Kai just joined in. We had a brief chat and then he went on his way…I really should have grabbed that photo opportunity.
Now I must admit that when I usually visit these photography exhibitions, I am usually just seeking a quick bargain to snatch up and did, while there grab myself a very nice Thule shoulder bag to carry my gear about in.
But something else also very much excited me on this occasion and I hope to invest in at some point when the pennies mount up. Much to the dismay of my wife, Westcott introduced me to their LED lighting range. Now, backtracking somewhat, I last encountered LED lighting when I co-owned a large commercial studio in Digbeth and did not rate them too highly at all due to the annoying green spike in colour they produced, but boy oh boy has this technology come on now, and it is all so lightweight and transportable too. You have GOT to check out their Flex range, it really does have so much potential both in the studio and out on location.
As soon as I get the opportunity, I will be sure to review some of the Flex items for you, but unfortunately it’ll have to wait for a while as the piggy bank is still empty.
As usual, another short blog from me, take care until next time folks.
